Correspondence of Thorington's father, James Strong Thorington, to family members, chiefly during his service as U.S. consul to CoĢlon, Panama, including newspaper clippings of letters written which were published (1873-1875) in the Davenport newspaper; letters of James's brother, Monroe Parker Thorington, including letters relating to his education and to his service with the U.S. Army at Ft. Keogh, Mont., and in Kansas (1870s); and letters and papers of Dr. James Thorington, including letters to his family written during his time as surgeon for the Panama Railroad Company and letters from sisters Dolly T. Pratt and Margaret T. Preston and distant cousins in Alabama.
